The New Lexus LFA

The new Lexus LFA is a spectacular arrival in the F portfolio of the Lexus high performance models. It has revolutionised the meaning of supercar for the 21st century. The new arrival aims to provide customers with enlightened moments and a superb driving experience. This uncompromised goal has been achieved by a dedicated and passionate team of engineers.

The new Lexus LFA is a rear wheel drive, passionately designed to give a high throughput. It utilises a high-revving 4.8-liter V10 engine that generates 552 hp and 354 lb-ft (480Nm) of torque for adrenaline-fuelled 202 mph (325km/h) performance. It offers a perfect driver control with its unique powerplant, joined to a unique six-speed and Automated Sequential Gearbox (ASG) with paddle shifters. The gearbox is located in a transaxle layout over the rear axle. It is essential for the front-to-rear weight distribution.

It has a unique exterior made up of advanced Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP). This sophisticated material technology gives a light, incredibly strong and impact-resistant structure. Thus, the chassis and bodywork has been manufactured to give a powerful and balanced exterior.

It places the high weigh components such as engine and the transmission system in the wheel base. The arrangement of the peripheral components like oil pump and the water pump along with the dry sump lubrication, contributes in lowering the centre of gravity. The centralised mass gives extra stability to the car during cornering.

It is a driver friendly car. It has a driver seat near the centre of gravity of the car. The seat is adjusted between the front and rear axle. This placement is aimed to provide maximum-car-to-driver feedback. It is very effective under sport and high G-force driving conditions. It features Track-sized high-performance (Carbon Ceramic) CCM brake discs and electronically controlled braking system for generating ultra-powerful, yet stable braking.

The Lexus LFA frame will be made from in-house developed CFPR monocoque and aluminium sub-frames. Lexus claims that by using CFPR, the weight of the car has been reduced by 100kgs. The LFA body has sharp edges and cut-offs to improve the aerodynamic performance. The body has been designed to emphasize on down-force. An air-vent in the front feeds the air directly into the engine. Air-scoops located on the rear, cool the radiator and the brakes. The speed sensitive rear-flap gets deployed at 50mph.

The car is designed to achieve high aerodynamic performance. The detailed features include flat under body, a diffuser and a speed-controlled rear wing. It creates unity between the driver and the vehicle at all speeds. It offers a low drag, about 0.31, through a controlled airflow over the surface of the vehicle.

The interior of the car combines the state of art instrument panel design and latest technology. Its interior is divided into three zones; mechanical zone, human zone and the driver zone. The dashboard caters many things including LCD screen in the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster has a digital speedometer with side appearing side menus. The interior offers a comfortable drive through its side-air-bags. The car ensures security with its Dynamic Integrated Management (VDIM) system. This system makes you aware of the potential collision. Thus, the new Lexus LFA offers a comfortable and safe driving experience.
